Architectural and Creative Wood-turning from local woods
Tom’s interest in Fine Woodwork reaches back over forty-five years, the past 30 years on the Big Island of Hawaii where he has been introduced to some of the most beautiful woods in the world, species like Milo, Kamani, Koa, Mango , Norfolk and Cook Island Pine. Having already been a wood turner before moving to Hawaii he was naturally drawn to the active wood-turning community and has become a member of the West Hawaii Wood-turners the Local Chapter of the American Association of Wood-turners (AAW). Seeing such beautiful works of traditional Hawaiian shapes like Calabash, Urns and Bowls is true inspiration.
Still having mainland connections and a mountain cabin and shop in the High Country of Idaho, Tom and his wife spend extended time there where Tom fills his days with wood-turning working with local woods of the region material like Aspen, Ponderosa Pine, Lodge Pole Pine, and also a large variety of hardwoods creating unique translucent bowls and other productions including Architectural wood-turning for stairs and porch columns. Using all of his scrap wood, not allowing any waste he enjoys turning Duck & Goose Calls mainly from exotic wood from around Hawaii and the world.
